Beat summers…. Take a ride to Pauri Garhwal
WHAT IS TRAVEL FOR YOU…………..I TRAVEL JUST TO BE ALIVE AND GET SOCKED IN THE HAPPINESS!!!!
With summers in Delhi, and temperature touching 48 degrees, days were long stretched with gray mornings and hot sunny afternoons smiling on you.
Popping reason and now we got thinking…
We told ourselves not to lose faith, the gray would burn off and it would become beautiful again. This also got me thinking if it was time to take a break from work and explore something new and chilly. What better way then a road trip.
Planning and research
I have been to few hilly highlights nearby Delhi like Shimla, Manali, Mussorie, Nainital, Dharamshala, Kasauli but this time wanted to explore something which is less crowded and in-turn more authentic and relaxing. After a good amount of research we freezed on our hidden jewel. Ahh yaahh – “Pauri” in Garhwal.

Route and food options
Here is a link for the route and driving options to Pauri. The route offers limited eateries and would suggest to munch before your leave Kotdwar. Let me tell you out of 9 hrs stretch, last 4 hrs (150 kms) are the never ending winding roads going round n round n round in the mountains. I am sure you will love it. On the way you cross Satpuli, which is nice charming city.
Trip begins
Finally we broke out of the city to enjoy few days in the lap of hills and to feel cold breeze. Our destination was high up in the hills so we were ready for our ride. All set for the day. Small family with three generations, packed luggage and our great road companion – Ford Figo.
After crossing the hustle bustle of the Delhi city, on the way to Ghaziabad and Meerut, we reached the place Kotdwar in 5 hrs. WOW!!! What a view of Mountains and also the starting point of the mountaineering drive.
Post that the mountains surrounded us and we drove and drove witnessing the wonderful views. Evening by the tea time, we reached our resort uphill and were stunned by the cool wind and the view of snow peaked mountains. But coming from 45 degrees we were not prepared for 20 degrees. Carried no winter clothing and we were really shaking due to temperature and rainy weather. Though we were pleasantly happy to enjoy the weather.
As a destination
Pauri is a small city, covered by huge mountains, eye soothing snow covered mountain views (luckily also from our resort), delicious food (but not to expect too many restaurants in the city, less crowded, not many tourists, excellent reach-ability by road and brilliant stretch for the drive lovers.
Travelling gives me a joy of happiness and something what keeps me going for more and such views make it more pleasing…..
But the views of snow covered mountain, shaking trees coz of wind, Chirping birds and no sounds of traffic or peeping horn till far and far. It was so calm only nature talks.
Excursions
On one of the days, we did a day trip to Devprayag to see the beginning of Ganges river. Devprayag is a town 50 kms (1 hour) from Pauri where Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet and take the name Ganga or Ganges River. There are plenty of other options like Srinagar for further eye catching views, lot of temples and the famous one in town is Kandoliya Temple located at Uppar market. In my view, Devpragag is a must go.
We had a wonderful stay for a week in the beautifully located resort and finger licking food. One of the days we had the typical Garhwali cuisine in dinner and we simply loved the same. A good break from the busy life style and finally bringing the body to a complete still and rather rejuvenating myself.
And the day come to leave – For a moment I just stood there and watched nature’s beautiful art, sweeping the entire landscape. And that is when it struck me – travel is all about to live such moments.
